Binny House, c.1840, perhaps Richard Crichton

Now in institutional use, this seat of the Stewarts of Binny, built in creamy Binny stone, has all the trappings of a Regency villa (pavilion roof and great tall chimneystacks) given a later front; a Doric porch flanked by projecting, balustraded two-storey bays. Curious extensions to the east with oculi, blind arcading and round-headed dormer windows. Bedroom block extension in stone and coloured harl by Erdal Architects, 1997. Small, older doocot behind. Flanked by two blind-arcaded pavilions, the stables are dominated by a semicircular pediment on brackets, trimmed with oversized diabolo-shaped urns. Converted to four houses with ingenious courtyard stair towers in stone metal and timber by Crichton Wood Architects. Saltire Housing Design Awards commendation, 2005. Mausoleum, 1873, is a plain Gothic façade to a burial chamber set in the rock of the hill
