Archaeology Notes

NT03SW 46 037 327.

Though he lists them among cultivation terraces in PSAS. Graham's Mss description is of Old Cultivation, Nisbet Water: The left bank of Nisbet Water, between points about 170 yds and 700 yds resepctively above Nisbet Farm, bears three groups of curved, terrace-like marks extending from the tip of the clay cliffs overlooking the burn to the modern enclosures above. These marks evidently represent the lower ends of vertical rigs, the upper parts of which have been destroyed by modern cultivation, their interest lies in the way in which some of them have formed high and steep negative lynchets where the slope favoured this development, illustrating how rigs and terraces can, on occasions, merge into one another.
