Archaeology Notes

NT03NE 2 0538 3959.

A bronze axe-head, 6 1/8" by 3", found in a cairn within the camp on Wintermuir Hill is in the Sim collection.

W Hunter 1867.

NT 0538 3959. Wintermuir Hill is on the E end of a long ridge, starting from Bizzyberry Hill on the W. Within earthwork NT03NE 1 there are numerous small stony mounds scattered over the whole of the interior, suggesting that a cairn did at one time exist in its centre.

Visited by OS(JD) 28 June 1955.

There is no evidence to suggest that a cairn existed within the fort on Bizzyberry Hill. There are, however, the remains of stone-walled houses in the interior.

Visited by OS(JP) 17 August 1972.
