Archaeology Notes

NT02SE 47 097 249.

The old house of Oliver stands about 50m NW of the present one. It has been much altered, not least by the removal of the upper storey, but originally it seems to have been a small symmetrically-planned lairds's house typical of its period. The lintel of the front door bears the date of erection, 1734, and the initials (I) T and M E, for James Tweedie of Oliver and his wife Margeret Ewart.

An heraldic panel, said to have been brought from the old house, is incorporated in the E front of the present house.

RCAHMS 1967, visited 1958.
