Archaeology Notes

NS97SE 37 9828 7148.

NS 983 715. Ring ditch: On the SW brow of Cairnpapple Hill, at 925' OD, a shallow 6' wide ditch encloses a broadly oval level area, 24' E-W x 21' N-S. There is no apparent bank and no obvious entrance. Ten yds E, a 6' - 8' wide terrace curves SW down the slope for 90 yds to an old road.

E A Cormack 1967

NS 9828 7148. This near circular ditched enclosure, situated on a slight slope, is generally as described. Its date and purpose are not clear but it has been by-passed by rig-and-furrow. There has been mining activity in the area but it is difficult to associate this feature with mining.

Surveyed at 1:2500.

Visited by OS (JP) 15 August 1974

Ring - barrow.
