Polmont House stands on an eminence some 300m NE of Polmont Junction. It was originally built about 1785, probably by Gilbert Laurie, formerly Lord Provost of Edinburgh. Considerable alterations and additions were made, probably about the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries, and later in the 19th century, obscuring its original appearance. (See Inventory for architectural details and photographs.)
