Archaeology Notes

NS94SW 7.05 9257 4429

(Formerly NS94SW 13)

(NS 9257 4429) Air photographs reveal the S part of an enclosure lying beside the Roman road 165m W of Castledykes fort; it measures about 45m from NW to SE by at least 35m transversely.

RCAHMS 1978, visited 1975; J K St Joseph 1965

There is nothing visible on the ground.

(This enclosure is part of the complex at Castledykes - see also NS94SE 7.00- 7.04, 7.06 and 16. NS94SW 7.00 and NS94SW 7.01 gives air photograph references and a plan).

Visited by OS (EGC) 17 January 1968.

This enclosure appears to have a narrow ditch and fairly sharp corners. There is a similarity in shape (although not size) with the nearby field system (NS94SW 16).
