(NS 9756 4645) Carnwath Ho. (NR)

OS 6" map (1912)

The present house is a plain two-storey mansion, to which an addition was made about 1820 (Name Book 1859).

It was a fortified house, 'dating in some part from the defensive period' but so altered as to be now virtually unrecognisable.

N Tranter 1965

Carnwath House, now the club-house of the Carnwath Golf Club, is mainly an early-19th century building but, where the harling has come away on the SE wing, rubble masonry and 16/17th century blocked windows and mouldings can be seen. These seem to be in situ but the extent of this earlier building cannot be determined.

Visited by OS (EGC) 9 January 1968

The house was demolished in 1970 and a new club-house built.

Information from RCAHMS (DE) February 1996
