Archaeology Notes

NS93SE 8 964 302.

A three-legged bronze cauldron was found when a new approach was being made to Hardington (NS 964 302). In 1854, it was in the possession of Adam Sim, Culter, and was later acquired by the National Museum of Antiquities of Scotland (NMAS Accession No: MA 35). It appears in the NMAS catalogue as "from Wiston parish".

G V Irving 1854; NMAS catalogue 1892.

No further information was found during field investigation Irving's illustration may be compared with other cauldrons of English provenance, established as 14th century and later (J B Ward-Perkins 1940).

Visited by OS(WW) 17 June 1955.
