Archaeology Notes

NS89NW 17 8152 9719.

Old Copper-mine, Logie Burn. Two hundred yards N of the old church of Logie (No. 127) the Sheriffmuir Road (No. 508) turns away from the Logie Burn in a hairpin bend, and 10 yds upstream from this point, on the E bank of the burn, an adit can be seen running horizontally into the hillside. This adit, which measures 4ft 6in in height and 3ft 6in in width, no doubt marks the site of an old copper-mine. A few yards further upstream traces of a trial adit are also visible in the E bank of the burn.

RCAHMS 1963

The adit of this old mine, as described, above, is at NS 8152 9719. It is very similar to, although much smaller than the adit at Airthrey ( - 17th to 19th century copper mine).

Visited by OS (WDJ) 9 January 1964.

There was a mall silver mine at NS 815 972.
