Archaeology Notes

NS88SE 1 85548 82236

(NS 85548 82236) The old manse at Larbert was built in 1635. (This is stated on the lintel of the second window from the NW corner of the first floor, along with the initials M/AN for Alexander Norie, and then minister.) It is an oblong building of two stories and a garret, and when visited in 1955, was largely in its original condition, apart from a new stair and entrance, and the blocking out of some windows. Since 1955, the house has been reconditioned and re-roofed; this has uncovered some original features, previously obscured by harling.

RCAHMS 1963, visited 1955

The manse is as described. The inscribed lintel bears the initials A N. Another stone bears the restoration date 1957 and the initials R L H.

Visited by OS (DWR) 8 February 1974.
