Archaeology Notes

NS86SW 1 c 805 639.

An Early Bronze Age flint saw, 2.6" long, was found in 1936 by Mr Auld at the side of Roughrigg Reservoir.

J H Maxwell 1941.

(Area NS 806 639) The saw was found just inside the reservoir wall, opposite the waterman's house, on a tongue of gravelly land stretching into the water. Mr J M Davidson, Honorary Secretary, Society of Antiquities of Scotland visiting the site some years ago, when the water was low, picked up a few sherds of pottery and flint flakes. The area was much grown over when he re-visited it in 1952.

Visited by OS(JLD) 30 October 1952.
