Archaeology Notes

NS84SE 7 8700 4375

(NS 8700 4375) There is a ford at the upper end of the islet at Clydesholm which is mentioned in 1461. In 1491 a ferry boat is first mentioned, and this ferry continued in operation until 1695 when the bridge was being planned (NS84SE 4). The ferrymen's houses were removed 'only a few years ago'.
