Archaeology Notes

NS84SE 36 c. 88 43.

A silver tetradrachm of Athens (c.450 BC) which was found in a quarry at Lanark (NS 88 43) on 30 May 1957 and was submitted for inspection by John McIlvaney, 16 Leonard Street, Lanark on 3 June 1957.

This can hardly have been lost in ancient times but how it came to be lost at Lanark in recent times is equally inexplicable.

A S Robertson 1963
