OS 6" map (1913)

Waygateshaw. The present buildings comprise a 16th century tower reduced in height, a 17th century wing and a modern block with outbuildings and domestic offices, the whole forming a hollow square, the centre being occupied by a small courtyard. The old tower, which stands at the NW angle of the existing building, was originally surrounded by the usual barmekin, or curtain-wall of which a small portion still remains.

N Tranter 1935

Waygateshaw (Miss Willis, owner) is correctly described by Tranter; it is still in use as a private residence. 120m north of the house there is a late 17th century lean-to-type dovecot in poor condition, the north and south walls being cracked, allowing the west wall to lean outwards.

Visited by OS (AC) 22 June 1959

The location of the sundial (a sculpted lion with a facetted block on its head) in currently unknown. See MS 5741/8/43.
