(NS 8353 0134) Mote (NAT)

OS 6" map (1959)

This motte (G Stell 1972) is a flat-topped artifical mound, summit 27 ft in diameter, at the end of a slight natural terrace, above which it rises about 8ft, while at the opposite side it is 18 ft high. At 10' below the summit, except on the S side, is a ditch or terrace, now mainly the latter, some 10ft wide. The summit has been considerably interfered with, probably by weeds and rubbish being deposited on it.

RCAHMS 1920, visited 1912.

A motte with a sub-circular summit area of 9.0m by 7.5m. It is encircled at 2.5m below the summit partly by a 2.5m wide 0.2m deep ditch and partly by a terrace on all except the south side where it is probably been effaced by cultivation.

Surveyed at 1:2500.

Visited by OS (TRG), 10 January 1978.
