NS76SW 7 70 64.

A Late Bronze Age socketed axe, 3 1/16" long, found in the parish of Old Monkland, (name: NS 70 64) was purchased for the National Museum of Antiquities of Scotland (NMAS) in 1922 (Accession no: DE 87).

Proc Soc Antiq Scot 1923; J M Coles 1962

Field investigation produced no further information.

Visited by OS (JLD) 18 October 1952.

(Socketed axe of Fulford type). Single find. Socketed axe, somewhat corroded, green, trimmed, asymmetrical body, short haft-ribs. Length 78mm, mouth 26 x 30mm, cutting edge 38mm, weight 230 gms. NMAS DE 87.
