Font: An unhewn stone indented with two square basins. The NSA speaks of a church in this locality. No one can point out the site, but the font was probably connected with it.
Name Book 1858
The NSA states: 'On the lands of Glentaggart (NS 813 251) there was a building which was probably a chapel as a font stone was found in it which is still preserved".
NSA 1845 (A Stewart)
NS 7980 2380. An irregular boulder 1.5m x 0.6m x 0.7m high, with two rectangular socket-like holes on the upper surface 0.4m x 0.2m x 0.2m deep. Although described as a font, this stone is similar to others near Sanquhar (NS71SE 8) and the Standard Stone on Culross Moor (NS98NE 6), which are generally believed to be cross socket stones.
No indication of the previous resting place of the stone (NS 7968 2387) was seen.

Archaeological Evaluation (October 2020 - June 2021)
NS 74009 24367–NS 86583 27718 Archaeological mitigation work comprising site visits, demarcation and watching briefs were carried out between October 2020 and June 2021, during access road widening works on the grid connection for Kennoxhead Wind Farm. Many of the sites along the route required no intervention. Two sites were demarcated, with the cross socketed stone (Canmore ID: 45537) being later relocated to the opposite side of the road. Two undated turf built sub-circular or circular enclosures with overall widths of between 10m and 15m were affected by the works and were recorded during the watching brief. The OS described these as ‘turf-covered sheepfolds’ (Canmore ID: 45544). No finds were recovered during the work.
