OS 6" map, (1967)
St Mary's Chapel at Meadowbank was built before 1300.
G Henderson and J J Waddell 1904.
The site of an ancient chapel which is generally known to have been in the neighbourhood, though the exact spot is not so well known. When the railway was being made, numerous stones and part of the foundations were found at the spot shown as the site. A gold ring and a golden image, similar to that of a handle of a stamp, were also found here. They are now in Glasgow Museum.
The Rev Dr Gardiner (Bothwell) very much doubts the existence of a chapel here at any time, but the ground about here is well known locally as the "chapel". (Fasti Eccles Scot [Scott et al 1915-61] and Orig Paroch Scot note only two chapels in Bothwell parish, viz NS75NW 10 and NS76SE 8.)
Name Book 1858.
A railway embankment now covers this site.
Visited by OS (J L D) 13 August 1953.
