(NS 6315 1328) Cairn (NR) (Site of)

OS 6" map (1957)

This cairn, which was known as "Polquhirter Auld Cairn" was levelled a few years ago, its stones being used for building purposes. There were four upright stones and a little find mould in the centre. No other remains were found. The ONB also quotes the NSA which states that this cairn, on Polquhaise (Polquhirter) farm consisted of stones in which fragments of human bones were found. In the centre of it, close to the surface of the natural soil was a sarcophagus of large stones containing fragments of human bones with a small quantity of black earth (NSA 1845 (M Kirkland)).
