(Approx NS 522 724) The remains of a 'Roman bridge', consisting of large, square, well-dressed stones, were reported by Gordon (1726) and Horsley (1732) at the point where the Military Way crosses the Peel Glen. Roy (1793) considered the stones to represent a paved ford. 'There is nothing of the kind to be seen now, so the issue must be left open.' G Macdonald 1934; W Roy 1793; J Horsley 1732; A Gordon 1726.
