Archaeology Notes

NS57NE 50 56 77

'Among the papers of the late J Harrison Maxwell, former lecturer in archaeology at the University of Glasgow, is a glass lantern slide showing "cups-and-rings to the W of Loch Ardinning" - well preserved and quite deeply carved on a horizontal surface at ground level. There is no scale.' Despite a careful search on several visits, Morris has been unable to re-locate these markings, which are: a cup-and-four rings, two cups-and-two-rings, and at least four cups-and-one-ring. Some rings are complete without radial groove and some are gapped with groove from the cup. (Loch Ardinning: centred NS 567 775).

R W B Morris 1969; 1969; 1981.
