(NS 5230 5587) Neolithic Stone Axe found 1938 (NAT)

OS 1:10,000 map, (1974)

A polished stone axe was found on the surface about 1938 in a field NE of the Bleach Works. Measuring 3 1/2 by 2ins, it is now in Glasgow Art Gallery and Museum (Accession no. 38-40) (information from J G Scott, Glasgow Art Gallery and Museum to OS, 9 February 1952).

(Findspot located to NS 5230 5587 by Mr Scott).

Mr Marchant (Secretary, Messers Wallace & Co.) has no knowledge of any further finds in this field or in the area of the works. No surface finds were made during field investigation.
