Archaeology Notes

NS55NW 13 5210 5711 (centre)

NS 520 571 The remains of a cairn, 24m in diameter, are situated on an eminence, south of Ryat Linn Reservoir and 30m east of a triangular wood.

T C Welsh 1977.

for further details see MS/1508

There is no evidence of a cairn at the location (NS 520 571) reported by Welsh in 1977. At NS 52139 57172 there is a grass-grown mound, which measures about 7m in diameter by 0.6m in height on its N side, but it appears to be simply one of a number of similar natural features in the vicinity. Immediately SW of this mound, between it and a ruined field wall, there is an area of low, flat rig-and furrow in which the individual rigs measure up to 4m in breadth and are aligned NW and SE.

Visited by RCAHMS (JRS) 29 February 2008.
