Archaeology Notes

NS55NE 51 56225 57079 562 570 to 557 566

The inclined terrace of the Old Mearns Road, prior to late 18th century re-alignment, is preserved in a small wood here. The continued course of this road is confirmed in a plan of Greenbank in 1763 as a double line of trees from NS 561 569 to NS 557 566.

T C Welsh 1987.

Traces of a possible hollowed roadway can be seen at the foot of a small plantation between Mearns Road and Beechlands Drive.

Visited by RCAHMS (SH, IP) 18 June 2007.
