Dun Sabhuill (F W L Thomas 1890), Dun Sobhuill, entirely obliterated

RCAHMS 1928

The fragmentary remains of a dun, known locally as Dun Sabhuill, are situated on a low eroded headland at NB 4430 5956.

All that can be seen is a section of outer wall face, c. 8.0m long, on the SE, constructed of massive blocks 0.7m maximum height, and a short stretch, c. 2.0m long, on the NW side. At the E cliff edge the wall is about 4.5m thick and appears to have incorporated a mural cell. The walling discernible in the cliff face on the N side is 3.7m thick. Surveyed at 1/2500.

Visited by OS (N K B) 16 June 1969.
