A dug-out canoe containing six stone celts, an oak war club and a considerable piece of deer's horn, was found in 1868 a little below Milton Island near Dunglass.

No further information was revealed during investigations as to the present whereabouts of the finds.

In the summer of 1868 a logboat was discovered in the River Clyde 'a little below Milton Island, near Dunglass'. It measured 22' (6.7m) in length and about 2'10" (0.9m) in 'breadth'; on the basis of these measurements the slenderness coefficient was 7.8.
The interior was 'well scooped out' and in it there were found six stone axes, a 'considerable piece of deer's horn' and an 'oaken war-club'. This latter object was possibly a paddle.
This discovery is probably to be identified with that noted by Currie 'opposite Dumbuck'. He identifies the timber as 'oak' and notes that the 'depth' could not be ascertained on account of the poor preservation of the sides. It was apparently recovered from the river but no longer survives.
