Archaeology Notes

NS47NW 5 40 76.

A chapel, dedicated to the Virgin Mary, stood near the burgh of Dumbarton. It may have been at Chapelton, a suburb near Townend, a little to the east of the town.

Orig Paroch Scot 1850; J Irving 1928

This chapel may have been confused with that, dedicated to St Mary, which preceded the Collegiate Church of 1450 (see NS37NE 14).

Visited by OS (JLD) 27 March 1956
