Archaeology Notes

NS41NW 8 c. 432 184.

The old name for Millmannoch (NS 432 184) is 'Kilmannoch' and this name could indicate an early religious foundation of some kind. 'Kilmannoch' may have been a corruption of 'Kilmarnoc', giving a dedication to St Marnock; another suggestion is that Kilmannoch means the chapel of the monks (cf NS41NW 5).

J Retter 1978.
