(Area NS 3350 8463) A bronze Spearhead with two loops, and measuring 6 1/2" x 1" was found in 1836 in the old channel of the River Fruin in a field called "Blar Chean" (Field of the Head) on the NW side of Fingal's Hill immediately below the Bridge of Fruin.
Nearby was found a helmet with visor still attached (see also NS38SW 6 for another) said to be a knight's or trooper's helmet of the time of the conflict in Glen Fruin - AD 1603. The gorget of a helmet was also found, and probably belonged to the one just described.
H F Stewart 1855
Socketed and looped bronze spearhead of LBA type, now lost; but water colour sketch seen on 16 May 1953 at the National Museum of Antiquities of Scotland [NMAS].
Information from J G Scott, 16 July 1953.
No local knowledge of the name "Blar Chean" could discovered, nor could the old river course in the area be identified.
