Archaeology Notes

NS34NW 7 3405 4877.

(NS 3405 4877) Law Hill is in all probability an ancient court hill or grave-mound, now levelled down. Surface indications when ploughed seem to support this idea.

J Smith 1895

No trace of a mound is visible on Law Hill, at present under pasture.

Visited by OS (DS) 20 August 1956

It would seem that Smith is referring to Law Hill itself, and not to a mound thereon. Albeit, this low, rounded hill shows nothing of archaeological significance; examination of RAF air photographs (106G/Scot/UK 77: 3268-9, flown 1946) proved negative.
