(NS 3592 3644) Standing Stone (NAT)

OS 6" map (1969)

This object is a large, erect stone; its origin is unknown (Name Book 1856). Smith, stating that it stands in a field called Stane Park, gives its dimensions as 8 1/2ft high and 4ft in diameter.

J Smith 1895

This is a large, roughly square block of stone, approximately 2.0m in height and 1.0m in diameter. It is in a field under crop, making close investigation impossible.

Visited by OS (JLD) 22 May 1954

This impressive standing stone is on level ground in a field of young crop at about 20m OD. It has a maximum height of 2.6m, and as stated, is roughly square with a girth of about 4.0m and a maximum width of 1.3m. There is some evidence of cattle rubbing, but otherwise it appears unmarked.

Resurveyed at 1:2500.
