OS 6" map (1971)

A spring called St Helen's Well, 'or by a curt pronunciation St Emus for St Antonies Well' is noted by Abercrummie, who adds that "it is famous for the cure of unthriving children, to which at the change of the quarter especially at May day there is a great resort of people from all quarters". The NSA repeats the tradition noted by Abercrummie, adding it was much used, even at a late date.
