A large cairn of stones, which contained human and other bones, some heads of pikes, spears etc, was removed within the past thirty years from a spot near the find-spot of the cist at Barbieston (NS31SE 2) and at the head of Barbieston Holm.

Area centred NS 368 141. Barbieston Holm is the field to the N and E of Barbieston farm. There is no trace of a cairn in this area and none of the local inhabitants knew of its existence.

The indicated site lies in a regularly cultivated field and there is nothing visible on the ground. Air photographs (RAF/106G/Scot/UK90: 3016-17, flown 1946) reveal nothing significant.
