OS 6" map (1910)
Milton is an extensive two-storeyed farmsteading attached to the estate of Blair. A portion of the building was the residence of the Blair family before the erection of Blairquhan Castle (in the 16th century - see NS30NE 2), and a stone cross which surmounts one of the gables still indicates the oldest part of the building.
Name Book 1856
The existing Milton House is modern. The ONB is referring to its predecessor which stood nearby and of which no trace remains. A stone cross was noted at NS 3766 0537 in the W gable of one of the outbuildings, and a stone inscribed 'AB 1764 / 1827 EM' is at NS 3767 0537, above a door in the same building.
