Archaeology Notes

NR89NW 42 c.833 963.

(NR 833 963) There are the levelled remains of two barrows or cairns in the field containing standing stones NR89NW 14. (One is presumably NR89NW 18, but the other cannot be NR89NW 40, which is also described. The boundary of the field as surveyed in 1865 is marked on record sheet.)

J Y Simpson 1868.

There is no trace of any further cairns in the field delineated. This may be a reference to the much reduced remains of the cairn NR89NW 51, which lies 150yds E of the stones.

Visited by OS (IA) 3 May 1973.
