Cairn, Cnoc na Sgratha.
This cairn, 550 m N. of Glenbuie farmhouse, is situated on moorland at a height of 150 m O.D. Overgrown by grass and heather, it is circular on plan and measures 7.5 m in diameter by 1.0 m in greatest height; a few large boulders visible near the perimeter on the E. and S. may possibly belong to an original kerb. Approximately in the centre there are the remains of a cist, measuring about 1.1 m by 0.6 m internally and 0.6 m in depth, with the longer axis aligned ENE. and WSW. Apart from the W. end slab and a small slab adjacent to it, the stones forming the walls of the cist have been dislodged or disturbed, and the floor is covered by a layer of debris. It is clear, however, that the cist stood above ground, the walls being bedded only a little way into the subsoil.
Above, and immediately to the W. of, the cist, the end of what appears to be a fairly large flat slab can be seen protruding from a pile of earth and stones thrown up when the cist was initially opened, while another flat slab, measuring 1.0 m by 0.4 m and 0.1 m in thickness, lies just outside the E. end of the cist. It seems likely that these are fragments of the original cap-stone.
