Archaeology Notes

NR77NW 9 7059 7953.

(NR 704 794) An oval setting of stones 28' x 10', axis NE, with a small group of larger stones near centre. Locally "known to be a grave". Suggests a boat-shaped Viking grave. Situated on SW end of low spit of land at E side of bay; in line between Castle Sween and Keills Church.

M Campbell and M Sandeman 1964.

NR 7059 7953:- A grass-covered amorphous scatter of loose stones, situated just above High Water Mark. Its origin is not clear but it is probably only an old storm-beach deposit.

Visited by OS (DWR) 14 May 1973.
