Archaeology Notes

NR74SW 10 c.702 438.

('A' : NR 7012 4370, 'B' : NR 7021 4381, 'C' -: NR 7025 4385 and 'D' : NR 7041 4373). Four cup-marked stones.

Information from D Colville to OS, 1953.

Four boulders bearing small irregular depressions which are due to natural weathering.

RCAHMS 1971, visited 1961.

Perambulation of the area revealed a cup-marked boulder, a possible cup-marked boulder and a number of stones with naturally weathered depressions. The cup-marked boulder is at NR 7030 4382; only its inclined south face measuring 0.7m by 0.45m protrudes through the turf. This face bears five cup-marks. A small number of irregular depressions (the result of weathering) are also visible. At NR 7019 4377 a boulder measuring 1.0m by 0.7m, and standing 0.6m high on the south side bears three possible cup-marks on its upper surface; other irregular marks have been caused by natural agencies.

The information provided by Colville is too scant to allow correlation with the stones noted above.

Surveyed at 1:10 000.

Visited by OS (J B) 17 February 1978.

Possibly this is the site listed by Naddair and MacLardy as Drumnamucklach (6): 'Approximately 11 solo cups'.

Naddair and MacLardy 1994a.
