Archaeology Notes

NR68NW 4 6449 8734.

NR 644 874. Excavations at this site (Lussa Wood I) have revealed three continous-construction stone rings, 13 1/2ft overall. Charcoal from one gave a radio-carbon date of 8194 +/- 350 BP, from the other two together, 7963 +/- 200 BP, implying a calendar age of 7000 - 6500 BC. Five neolithic-type relics, including an edge-chip from an axe-like tool of Irish porcellanite, were mixed with the uppermost microlithic artifacts found.

J Mercer 1973; 1974

The excavation at NR 6449 8734 is open, but was flooded at the time of visit. One stone ring and half of each of the other two survive.
