Archaeology Notes

NR64NW 9 c. 6473 4785

(Area: NR 6470 4780) Cup-marked stone.

Information contained in letter from R E MacCallum to OS, 24 October

A naturally pitted stone at NR 6473 4785 is possibly the stone referred to. All large stones including the aforementioned have been cleared from the field to the west. No cup-marks were seen, although many stones now lie face down.

Visited by OS (J B) 17 January 1978.

In a heap of field-cleared stones, a boulder 1m long. Incised on one end is a double rectangle, on the opposite a zig-zag motif. The two patterns are joined by a reticulated band on the top of the boulder. Details from and suggestions to finders (Possibly refers to same stone).

N Fojut and P Love 1980.
