'On the top of Cnoc a' Shevis there are to be seen some vestiges of a breastwall and one part of the hill would appear to be raised in the construction of the fort. There is a peculiar stone upon the top which tradition says was placed there by the Romans'.
Name Book 1869.
Dun.
Information contained in letter from R E MacCallum to OS, 24 October 1960.
This feature is not a fort.
OS 6" map, annotated by P Gouldesbrough, undated.
This 'fort' is simply a natural knoll.
RCAHMS 1971, visited 1963.
This feature is as described by RCAHMS. There is no trace of walling.
Visited by OS (J B) 22 January 1978.
Although the Inventory mentions the knoll, it does not record the presence of two unusually shaped stones known as 'The Cailleach and the Bodach'. They sit on top of the hill and if one should fall over, it is immediately put up again. Each one is about 60cms tall, one being boat-shaped with a deep keel and a flat rectangular top, and the other flagon-shaped with a broad projecting lip.
Visited [OS], April 1993.
F Hood 1994; MS/805/1.
