OS 6" map (1924)

The site of the massacre of the MacDonald garrison of Dunaverty Castle (NR60NE 4) after their surrender to the Earl of Argyll and General Leslie in July 1647. A small area where three of the MacDonalds are buried is enclosed by a wall. There are estimated to have been about 300 men in the garrison, at the start of the siege in May 1647.

Name Book 1866; NSA 1845

The walled burial enclosure still survives virtually entire. A plaque set into the wall states that a number of the slain were interred within the enclosure.
