Activities

Field Visit (20 March 2025)

A substantial wall is evident eroding out of the dunes on the N side of Kilnaughton Bay, lying just to the N of the current course of the river. The wall stands about six courses high and does not appear to be lime mortared. The form of construction is unlike the nearby 19th century walls, having more in common with the masonry of Kilnaughton Chapel (NR34NW 5). The wall may be part of a building, perhaps of medieval or earlier date. The section of the dune above the wall has bands of dark soil above it, perhaps a midden.
