Field Visit (17 February 2025)

This hut circle (Highland HER MHG63819) is situated in sparse woodland on a gently sloping terrace above the S shore of Loch Achilty and about 600m S of The Croft. It measures 14.3m in diameter within a grass-grown stone bank 2m in thickness and 0.8m high at the NE, where best-preserved. Elsewhere the bank is spread up to 3.2m in thickness. The entrance is on the E and measures 2.2m across.

Immediately NE of the hut circle, and perhaps also of later prehistoric date, there is an oblong enclosure. This measures about 135m from ENE to WSW by 85m transversely within grass-grown stony banks that have spread up to 4m in thickness and 0.6m in height. This evidently formed part of a field system (MHG63821) that extended both to the W and to the N where there is a scatter of small clearance cairns (centred NH 4389 5648) up to 6m in diameter and 0.5m in height.

Visited by HES Archaeological Survey (G F Geddes), 17 February 2025.
