(NR 4118 6526) Chapel (NR) (Site of) Burial Ground (NR)

OS 6" map, Argyllshire, 2nd ed., (1900)

A chapel once stood inside this burial ground. Part of the latter was flooded when the level of Loch Lossit was raised. It is not known when they were in use, but there is every reason to regard them as antiquities.

Name Book 1878.

There is no trace of a chapel or graveyard at or near the site published on OS 6" map. The situation in a level marshy area would almost certainly preclude the construction of a building here. The tradition is not known locally.

Visited by OS (NKB), 5 April 1979.

Activities

Field Visit (August 1974)

NR 411 652. There are no visible remains, and it was reported in 1878 that part of the burial-ground was believed to have been submerged by a change in the level of the loch. (Ordnance Survey Name Book 1878)

RCAHMS 1984 (visited August 1974).
