Archaeology Notes

NR45SE 16 4657 5456.

NR 466 546. There are two standing stones at Ardtalla farm:

(a); 15.24m NW of the SW gable, is leaning, greatest height 1.40m; breadth 0.33m and thickness 0.48m.

(b); 27.43m NE of the farm, is an isolated, earthfast stone, 0.69m high, 0.66m broad and 0.45m thick, tapering to 0.40m by 0.38m.

I D Shanks 1976.

NR 4657 5456 (a) An upright stone 0.5m by 0.4m by 1.3m high. Although this may be a Standing Stone it is situated in an area of outcropping blocks of rock and has a somewhat natural appearance.

NR 4667 5458 (b). A small insignificant boulder. Not an antiquity.

(a). Surveyed at 1:10,000.

Field Visit (June 1975)

NR 465 545. This standing stone is situated 18m NW of the SW gable of Ardtalla farmhouse. Leaning slightly to the SSE, it measures 0.48m by 0.48m at the base and 1.25m height.
