Archaeology Notes

NR45NE 3 4590 5806.

A set of cup marks was noted at approximately NR 457 577, near Proaig Bay in 1959. They were not found by Morris (1969) in 1968.

The RCAHMS, however, noted a rock with a basin, probably a natural hole enlarged - at NR 4590 5806.

F Celoria 1959; R W B Morris 1969; Information from Mrs I Ramsay; Information from RCAHMS.

No cup marks could be found in the area indicated by Mrs Ramsay. The basin noted by the RCAHMS is cut into the flat upper surface of a large boulder. It is obviously artificial, probably recent and measures 0.25m in diameter and 0.15m deep.

Visited by OS (TRG) 24 June 1978.
