Watching Brief (4 December 2018 - 6 December 2018)
The first phase of an archaeological evaluation at Northcraigs, Kilmarnock, East Ayrshire undertaken by GUARD Archaeology Limited on behalf of East Ayrshire Council between the 4th and the 6th of December 2018. Four trenches were excavated across the development area; no significant archaeological deposits uncovered during the evaluation. The evaluation established that topsoil of between 0.3 m and 0.5 m thick overlay subsoil with frequent field drains suggesting evidence for agricultural improvement and activity across this phase of the development. A potential backfilled empty service trench/site investigation trench was also encountered.
