Note (13 April 2023)

NY19NE 11 NY 16876 99983

A field system of at least two square fields containing rig and furrow is visible on vertical aerial photographs about 130m WNW of the farmstead at Dryfehead (NY19NE 10). The S field measures about 70m from WNW to ESE by at least 60m transversely over a turf bank some 2-3m in thickness. The interior contains the fugitive traces of rigs aligned from NNE to SSW. A second enclosure is situated about 18m to the NE. It measures about 52m from NW to SE by at least 40m transversely over a turf bank 2-3m in thickness. The interior contains traces of rigs aligned from NW to SE averaging about 2m in breadth. The field system is most likely to be of post-medieval date, but it may pre-date the visible remains of the farmstead at Dryfehead.
